The proud parents — who married in a lavish ceremony in July 2011 — smiled and waved to the crowd below as they appeared on the balcony at the Palais Princier in Monaco at 11:45 this morning. Charlene, clad in a stylish cream-colored coat, held son Jacques while her husband, Prince Albert, cradled daughter Gabriella in his arms.

“I think a very strong protective instinct in me was born in the same time [as the twins],” she told the publication. “I will do my best to guide them, raise them and send them the values that my husband and I share.”

Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques are the first children born to Princess Charlene and Prince Albert II, though he has two older daughters from two previous relationships.
