It’s their first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, but, unfortunately, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had to spend the special holiday apart. While the pregnant mom-to-be stayed home in London on Thursday, February 14, the Duke of Sussex was many miles away in Bardufoss, Norway for a visit to Exercise Clockwork, a base where military personnel are trained on how to survive and operate in extreme weather conditions.

The 34-year-old’s visit marked the 50th anniversary of the Commando Helicopter Force and Joint Helicopter Command deploying to Bardufoss. Harry, who is the Captain General of the Royal Marines, arrived in uniform on the base Valentine’s Day for the occasion. During his visit, the red-headed royal was taken inside Quincey Shelter, a tiny makeshift igloo that was decorated with a super sweet surprise for the royal — see if you can spot it in the photo below!

In honor of the romantic holiday, pictures of Meg, 37, and Harry from their May 2018 royal wedding were hung around the igloo. As he entered the shelter, Harry was also greeted with lit candles and romantic music. “You weirdos,” he joked as he saw the decorations. “It’s very kind of you to invite me into your private shrine or whatever you want to call it. And the music, is that part of it? Romantic isn’t it.”

Meghan, who has always seemingly been a fan of Valentine’s Day, once blogged about being in a “funk” on the holiday back in 2015. “Hook, line and sinker, I am such a sucker for Valentine’s Day,” she wrote on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig, according to People, before adding, “[But] I think you need to be your own Valentine.”

In the same post, the former Suits actress also detailed how her costars Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres came to her rescue that year and reminded Meghan to be kind to herself during a time when things were lousy. “Last season I was chatting with my Suits sister wives, Sarah and Gina, and was in some sort of funk, bemoaning something that was so futile I don’t even remember what it was now. But I was faaaaaar from showing [myself] self-love,” she wrote.

Meg continued, “One of them stopped me — truth be told I can’t remember which one because they both impart their sage wisdom with me on the daily — but one of the stylish wise ones stopped me and said, ‘Hey! That’s my friend you’re talking about. Be nice to her.'” Meg then explained that her friends were protecting her from herself. “From my own criticism, and my own self-doubt. They were reminding me to treat myself as well as I treat those closest to me. To be my own valentine,” she said.

Luckily for Meg, this year she has her hunky husband as a Valentine. Though the two are sadly spending their day apart, we hope Meg and Harry get some well-deserved alone time filled with love and relaxation when the royal couple is reunited.
