As pregnant Meghan Markle and Prince Harry get ready to welcome their first child this spring, this year’s Valentine’s Day is sure to be a very special one for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Though Meghan, 37, has always seemingly been a fan of February 14, she once blogged about being in a “funk” on V-Day back in 2015.

“Hook, line and sinker, I am such a sucker for Valentine’s Day,” Meg wrote on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig, according to People, before adding, “[But] I think you need to be your own Valentine.”

In the same post, the former Suits actress also detailed how her costars Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres came to her rescue that year and reminded Meghan to be kind to herself during a time when things were lousy. “Last season I was chatting with my Suits sister wives, Sarah and Gina, and was in some sort of funk, bemoaning something that was so futile I don’t even remember what it was now. But I was faaaaaar from showing [myself] self-love,” she wrote.

Meg continued, “One of them stopped me — truth be told I can’t remember which one because they both impart their sage wisdom with me on the daily — but one of the stylish wise ones stopped me and said, ‘Hey! That’s my friend you’re talking about. Be nice to her.'” Meg then explained that her friends were protecting her from herself. “From my own criticism, and my own self-doubt. They were reminding me to treat myself as well as I treat those closest to me. To be my own valentine,” she said.

Meghan then revealed that her 2015 Valentine’s Day included spending some quality time with her friends as they ran “amock through the streets of NYC, likely imbibing some cocktail that’s oddly pink and jumping over icy mounds in my new shoes through the salted snowy streets of the West Village.”

Adorably enough, the shoes the duchess mentioned were a special V-Day gift to herself. “Because I’ve worked hard, because I’m not going to wait for someone to buy me the things I covet (nor do I want to) and because I want to treat myself as well as I treat those dearest to me. Because I am my own funny Valentine,” she said of the purchase.

Fast forward a few years and Meghan is now happily hitched to Harry, 34, though the two are sadly spending their first Valentine’s Day as a married couple apart as the duke is busy working today. When they’re back together, we hope Meg and Harry get some well-deserved alone time filled with love and relaxation this V-Day!
