She’s had impeccable style ever since she began starring on Suits in July 2011, but Meghan Markle‘s fashion sense has only gotten better since she became British royalty. While fans and royal admirers look up to duchess for fashion advice, her go-to milliner, Stephen Jones, revealed that Meg looks to none other than Queen Elizabeth for her style inspiration.

“Almost like the queen, she understands that in a way, what’s best is simplicity,” Jones dished to People earlier this month. “There is a restraint and elegance to her, which is wonderful.”

The 37-year-old first seemed to be following in the queen’s fashion footsteps when she began opting for mostly monochromatic dresses and ensembles. “Meghan wears very clean lines, there is never anything fussy, in the way that the queen, especially now, wears very clean lines,” the hatmaker revealed. “They have to look correctly dressed out of respect, as opposed to just fashionably dressed — but they are really aware of those things, too.”

The former actress, whose style changed from mini-dresses and dark lipstick to gowns and fascinators when she began dating Prince Harry in November 2016, first wore one of Jones’ designs when she attended an official engagement at Westminster Abbey with her hubby, 34, and other members of the royal family. For the appearance, the brunette beauty accessorized her chic white and navy look with a simple white beret created by Jones. “There’s also an understanding about the power of clothing,” Jones added. “She is an actress and she knows the meaning behind all of those clothes.”

The soon-to-be mom also knows the importance of following protocol. Since becoming an official member of the royal family after tying the knot with the duke in May 2018, Meg has worn many of Jones’ designs. Last year, the LA native wore a forest green knee-length dress with a pair of matching heels and a fascinator designed by Jones to Prince Louis‘ christening.

However, Meg wasn’t the only famous person that he’s designed headpieces for. According to the milliner, she recruited Jones to design a hat for her mother, Doria Ragland, and headpieces some of her closest friends for her royal wedding. “To be invited by Meghan to create the hats for the most important people in her life has been a real privilege,” he revealed in a statement last May.
