In a previous interview with Glamour, Meghan described her ideal gown: “I have the luxury of wearing beautiful pieces of clothing every day for work, so my personal style — wedding or not — is very pared down and relaxed. Classic and simple is the name of the game, perhaps with a modern twist. I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic. Delphine Manivet and Christos Costarellos are faves of mine for their uniqueness and beauty. And I will always be a fan of Ellie Saab. J. Mendel is spectacular as well, especially for more structural designs.” She also said she “happens to love” a “low ballerina inspired neckline” on wedding gowns and her all-time favorite celebrity wedding dress belonged to Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Kensington Palace also commented on the design. “True to the heritage of the house, the pure lines of the dress are achieved using six meticulously placed seams. The focus of the dress is the graphic open bateau neckline that gracefully frames the shoulders and emphasises the slender sculpted waist. The lines of the dress extend towards the back where the train flows in soft round folds cushioned by an underskirt in triple silk organza. The slim three-quarter sleeves add a note of refined modernity,” they said. As for the fabric? “Following extensive research by Ms. Waight Keller in fabric mills throughout Europe, an exclusive double bonded silk cady was developed. Perfect for the round sculptural look required, the silk cady has a soft matt lustre whilst the bonding process and pure white colour chosen by Ms. Markle and Ms. Waight Keller bring a fresh modernity to the dress.”

In a recent interview, iconic fashion designer Vera Wang also revealed what she thought Meghan’s dress would look like. “Other than [wearing our designs], and she’s not wearing us — there are two ways for her to go: American or British. Given her new position, her new status, and her new role, she’ll very well go British,” the 68-year-old told Harper’s Bazaar.

Beyond that, Vera predicted that Meghan would embody both the new and old monarchy. “Neither full blown royal wedding like [Princess Diana] or Kate, and neither narrow, sensual, and more sexy — I think she’ll go somewhere in-between that feels a tad more modern,” she said. “Something maybe a tad subtler, not a mermaid but not a full blown royal proportion or anything theatrical. Given that she’s not marrying the future king, she’ll still be a royal, [but] there’s a lot to be done between those two worlds.” Vera had the right idea, too!
