Well, this is awkward! Meghan Markle ended up not extending an invitation to her May 19 royal wedding to her estranged half-sister, Samantha Grant, after In Touch Weekly reported that she wouldn’t. Samantha was not at the nuptials over the weekend — and neither was Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr.

A source previously told the entertainment magazine that Meghan, 36, was “not planning to invite Samantha to her and [Prince Harry]’s wedding.” Meghan and Samantha — who share the same father, Thomas Markle Sr. — have reportedly been estranged since 2008. Meghan’s father also bailed on the event at the last minute, so Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, unfortunately, sat alone at the St. George’s Chapel ceremony.

In a previous interview before the wedding, Samantha said she had “no idea” if she’d be included in Meghan’s nuptials to Harry, 33. “I can’t imagine how anyone would anticipate a normal, traditional, royal wedding. I mean they’d probably be watching across the lawn for the Markles to approach — ‘Oh, good God, they’re coming! Close the curtains! Hide!'” she said, joking about the media frenzy that would happen if her family did show up to the wedding. “It’s just so silly. We’re so normal. And yes, I would love to go, but we have no idea what’s going to happen.”

The media has heard from Samantha several times since Meghan began dating Harry in 2016, like when went on a social media rant after claiming that their dad would walk Meghan down the aisle contrary to reports that her mother would be the one (Prince Charles was the one who ended up walking her down). “Muck about Doria walking Meg down the aisle is NOT true. Our father will walk her down the aisle,” she wrote on Twitter a few months back.

She also made major headlines when she slammed Harry’s comments about Meghan spending Christmas with the royal family last December. In an interview at the time, Harry called his relatives the family that the Suits actress has “never had.” The words struck a nerve with Samantha, who retorted, “Actually, [Meghan] has a large family who was always there with her and for her. No one was estranged, she was just too busy.” She continued on Twitter, “Meg’s family is complete with [a] sister, brother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and the glue of our family, our amazing father. She always had this family… Marrying merely extends it.”

A source then told In Touch that Meghan was “not happy” about Samantha’s message to Harry. “Meghan has enough on her plate planning her upcoming wedding,” the insider said at the time. “The last thing she needs is Samantha drawing attention to herself and giving her unwanted opinion on Harry’s interview.” After all of this, it seems unlikely that Samantha and Meghan will ever make amends.
