It’s been one year since Kate Middleton helped launch Nursing Now, a global campaign whose mission is to raise the profile and status of nursing worldwide so that nurses can have all the more reason to continue fighting to save lives. In honor of the first anniversary, the Duchess of Cambridge released a special statement to acknowledge all the successes the campaign has accomplished.

“The dedication and professionalism of nurses is awe-inspiring,” the 37-year-old gushed in the statement. “I am delighted that, at the end of its first year, Nursing Now has grown internationally, with local and national groups in over 60 countries. Nurses play a vital role in health teams all around the world, and this campaign is doing an important job of raising their status and profile globally.”

Kate continued to explain why having an appreciation for nurses is so important, saying, “It is wonderful news that the World Health Organization Executive Board has announced that 2020 will be the ‘Year of the Nurse and Midwife.’ This is a fitting celebration of the 20 million nurses worldwide and we hope that more young people will be attracted into nursing careers to ensure that the principle that health is for everyone, everywhere, becomes a reality.”

This movement is so close to the brunette beauty’s heart considering her great-grandmother, Olive Middleton, was a nurse who cared for wounded servicemen in a field hospital during WWI. Last year during her visit to St. Thomas’ Hospital in London, Kate alluded that her great-grandmother Olive was partly responsible for inspiring to help Nursing Now.

“This campaign means a lot to me personally. My great-grandmother and grandmother were both volunteer nurses,” she said in a speech at the time. “They would have learned first-hand from working with the Voluntary Aid Detachment and the Red Cross about the care and compassion that sometimes only nurses can provide.”

Kate is no stranger to supporting initiatives in the medical field. The royal mom-of-three has proved that she has a huge heart by centering her patronages around charities and organizations that tackle addiction, mental health, those who are struggling with life-threatening conditions and childhood diseases and cancers. Kate is making a huge difference in this world and we couldn’t love her more for it!
