A-lister Courteney Cox will never forget the day a private plane she was traveling in was forced to make an emergency landing in Ontario, California after it lost a tire during takeoff on Friday, February 15. In a new interview with Extra, Courteney, 54, candidly recalled the whole experience and said that it was very scary for her.

“I’m not afraid of flying at all … my dad was a pilot … but I was really scared because when we were taking off, we heard this really loud bang and I was like, ‘Oh, that sounds like we should probably check that tire,'” Courteney recalled. “There was no tire at all, there was no wheel. Luckily, there are two wheels on each side and two in the front. I have to say, we were in the air for four hours, burning off fuel and just thought of what it is going to be like when we land … it was a really smooth landing.”

Courteney boarded the plane at Los Angeles International Airport with a few of her girlfriends including Jennifer Aniston, Amanda Anka and Jimmy Kimmel‘s wife, Molly McNearney. The girls were headed to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to celebrate Jen’s 50th birthday and once the plane was finally able to land at California’s Ontario International Airport, Courteney quickly texted her loved ones.

“I sent a little text to Coco, ‘I love you,’ I didn’t say why, and to Johnny [McDaid] … I told him everything that was going on and I FaceTimed him after.” After the scary event, Courteney poked fun at the incident by taking a selfie next to one of the plane’s tires and posted it on her Instagram Story. “Hang in there little buddy,” she wrote on the photo underneath a prayer hands emoji.

Although they were a little late, the ladies still made it to Cabo San Lucas to celebrate Jen’s birthday and they all got her a great gift. “A bunch of us got her a pottery wheel and lessons even though she’s a great artist,” Courteney said. “And a table, a big beautiful antique table.” We’re so glad everyone is OK following this scary emergency landing!
