It seems like Courteney Cox had a very good reason for why she decided to say goodbye to all her facial fillers.

The 54-year-old recently chatted with People and revealed why she is “not a fan of fillers” anymore. “I would say it’s a common thing you go through as you age, especially in Hollywood,” the Friends alum said. “You have to accept getting older, and that’s something that I had a hard time doing.” She explained that she “wasn’t pleased with myself and the way I looked. [I tried] to keep up with time in a way that was anything other than maintenance.”

The actress added, “I didn’t realize it until one day I kind of stepped back and went, ‘Oh s–t. I don’t look like myself.” Now that she’s gone without fillers for almost two years, Courteney revealed that she’s finally back to feeling like the best possible version of herself. “I just embrace who I am and getting older with what God gave me, not what I was trying to change,” she said.

The Cougar Town alum is also feeling quite confident these days. “I kind of own everything. And the things that I am not as comfortable with myself, they’re things that I continue to work on to grow and change,” Courteney said. “I am, [I] think I am at a stage of my life where it’s very easy to be comfortable with who I am and who I’ve become and who I strive to be.”

While she didn’t sport fillers back during her days starring in the Scream franchise, Courteney did recently reveal that there was something about herself in one of those films that she wasn’t happy about at all: her bangs. While again portraying reporter Gale Weathers in Scream 3, the mom-of-one realized that getting her character’s hair right was proving to be difficult.

“I liked to change [Gale’s] hair every time,” the Golden Globes nominee recalled. “I had these bangs and they were cut too short. At that time in my life, I wasn’t the kind of person who would say, ‘You know what? These are too short. We need to get new bangs.’” She soon learned she would have to rock a hairpiece during the movie to make up for the bad haircut. “I was just like, ‘Oh, well, okay, oh God, they don’t look great,’” Courteney told the outlet at the time. “In reality, I should have said, ‘No, no, no we have to get new bangs.’ I did not stick up for myself and hence I look horrible. That was a big lesson — take care of yourself.”
