In the wake of the heartbreaking Australia wildfires, Bindi Irwin can’t help but wish dad Steve Irwin was around. In an Instagram post on January 7, the late Crocodile Hunter star’s beloved daughter expressed her sadness regarding the country’s devastation and praised her dad for inspiring her animal-saving efforts.

“Dad spent his life working so hard to protect wildlife and wild places, especially in Australia,” Bindi, 21, wrote alongside a photo of Steve snuggling up to a baby Kangaroo. “I wish he was here right now to give advice and strength during this time of devastation with the bushfires. I know that his spirit lives on through our conservation work and I hope together we can make him proud.”

Fans of the Australian television personality flooded her comments sections with messages of encouragement. “You guys are really earth angels, I’m sure he is very proud of you,” one of Bindi’s followers gushed, while another echoed, “You all are doing a Fantastic job! You dad is there in spirit.” A third fan chimed in, writing, “Praying for your country. Your dad would be so proud of you and your family.”

The Dancing With the Stars alum’s tear-worthy posts comes days after she announced her family, including mom Terri Irwin and brother Robert Irwin, have “officially treated over 90,000 patients” affected by the disastrous wildfires — which have killed an estimated 1 billion wild animals and burned more than 14.7 million acres thus far, according to NBC.

In one of her many posts regarding the wildfires, Bindi — who was just 8 years old when her father tragically passed after being stabbed in the heart by a stingray —  expressed the importance of conserving the environment and protecting wild animals.

“I want to thank you for your kind words and support,” she wrote on Instagram on January 3. “This is the heart-wrenching truth, every day is a battle to stand up and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Now more than ever we need to work together to make a difference and protect our Mother Earth.”

Although Bindi wishes she had her dad by her side, we know Steve is smiling down on his wife and kids. In fact, the Bindi the Jungle Girl star’s mom, Terri, opened up to UK’s Closer magazine about watching her two children follow in her beloved husband’s iconic footsteps.

“I always wish Steve was here, but I do feel he’s watching over us,” the Crikey! It’s the Irwins star, 55, gushed at the time. “I have two awesome kids. They’re so passionate about carrying on Steve’s conservation work, I can’t imagine them doing anything else. At first, I’d wish Steve was here and that he could do this better, but now, it’s becoming more special and another way to honor what he has done.”
