These days it’s tough to come across a married couple that have been together for decades, but how about one that has been by each other’s side for more than 80 years? That’s exactly the case with a lovely pair in North Carolina, and they recently revealed the secret to long-lasting love.

On Sunday, March 31, D.W. Williams, 103, and Willie Williams, 100, celebrated their birthdays, as well as 82 years of marriage. But what exactly is the secret to it all? “I don’t have no secret for that, just be nice to each other,” they said. Being kind is certainly key in keeping a relationship strong, and it’s very clear that this pair is still quite fond of each other even after all these years — a partnership that has seen them lived through wars and the Civil Rights Era.

BJ Williams-Greene, the couple’s granddaughter, threw them a celebration at First Mayfield Memorial Baptist in north Charlotte, where they have been members for 19 years. “To see them at this age and still doing well, it’s just a bless to have them here,” she said. And while her grandparents don’t exactly have a secret to their beautiful and long marriage, Williams-Green has an answer.

“It’s communication and loving each other and working together. They are each other’s best friend,” she revealed to WSOC-TV. And the pair’s pastor, D.K. Ferguson, also had nothing but praise for the honorees. “The celebration was a wonderful experience, he said. “It’s a pleasure to see history come together with these two people and to learn from them. I’m very proud of them.”

If you were wondering what would the Williams do if they had 100 more years on this earth, this is what they said: “I don’t know, sit around the house.” Well, that actually sounds like a pretty relaxing time.

Congrats to this lovely couple!
