Meeting Her Husband Changed Her Life

After a series of failed relationships, Julia finally found lasting love with cinematographer Danny Moder, 51, whom she married in 2002. “I think that first real ‘seismic shift’ was meeting Danny,” says Julia, 52. “That was the first, like, ‘my life will never be the same in the most incredible, indescribable way.’ ” In February, the couple purchased an $8.3 million home in San Francisco, where they enjoy quiet time away from Hollywood.

Her Sister Is Her Best Friend

“When I graduated from high school, my sister Lisa had already moved to New York City and was enrolled in theater school,” says Julia of her actress-producer sibling. “I asked to move in with her — mainly because I missed her — and she never blinked an eye. Now we’re grown and married and have separate apartments, but they’re in the same building!”

She Practices Hinduism

“It’s been a part of my life for a very long time,” says the actress, who became intrigued by the religion after “seeing a picture of a guru called Neem Karoli Baba. I was so drawn to this picture and I didn’t know who he was or what he was about, but felt a very strong interest.”

She Talked Richard Gere Into Doing Pretty Woman

Her costar in the 1990 hit rom-com was initially reluctant, but, says Julia, “I just said, ‘You have to do this movie’…. And I kind of pleaded with him in a very real way.”

She Won’t Touch Botox

“Your face tells a story, and it shouldn’t be a story about your drive to the doctor’s office,” Julia insists.
