When Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank on Friday, October 12, 2018, she walked down the aisle wearing one of the most beautiful royal wedding dresses of all time! And the best part about the 28-year-old royal’s gown was that it featured a deep-v neckline that showed off her Scoliosis surgery scar.

Along with Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle‘s dresses, Eugenie’s gown is now available for the public to view at Windsor Castle, and in the exhibition’s audio guide, she opened up about her bold decision to display her scar on her wedding day. “I had always wanted a low back — part of it was showing my scar and I believe scars tell a story about your past and your future, and it’s a way of getting rid of a taboo,” Eugenie explained. “For me, it’s a way of communicating with people who are going through either similar situations with scoliosis or having a scar of their own that they are trying to deal with.”

At age 12, Eugenie had surgery on her back to fix her Scoliosis. The doctor had to break her spine just to realign it in a straight position and, after an operation like this, a patient would normally need several months to recover. By showing off her scar at her wedding, Eugenie showed the world just how brave she can be.

“We started getting a lot of letters from people who were happy that I had stood up and showed my scar, and people with scoliosis, letters from girls that are going through the same thing and I definitely was very touched by everyone’s support,” she gushed.

Eugenie’s wedding dress was designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos and in the audio guide, Peter revealed that Eugenie’s gorgeous gown is the first wedding dress that they have ever worked on, so it showed “how forward-thinking Princess Eugenie is to trust us with this very important task,” he said. For their first wedding dress, Peter and Christopher did a great job!
