Can you believe it?! Exactly one year ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went to St. George’s Chapel to get married and the ceremony was so beautiful that their fans still talk about it today. Who could forget the gorgeous gown that Meghan sported when she walked down the aisle with Harry’s dad, Prince Charles.
She looked so beautiful in her one-of-a-kind dress and, after the ceremony was over, she slipped into her second wedding gown for the reception party. While the two danced the night away with their closest family and friends, the public eagerly waited for them to make their first public appearance together as husband and wife.

Since that day, Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, have achieved so many milestones in their lives — from modernizing Kensington Palace to having a baby, their son Archie, together. As May 19, 2019, marks their first wedding anniversary, we remember all of the grand moments they had on their big day and why it was such an unforgettable moment in royal history.

Meghan’s Dress
It’s true that Meghan’s wedding dress was just as beautiful as it was iconic. Her gown was designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy and featured an open bateau neckline and sculpted waist. Not only that, but her silk tulle veil was perfect for the occasion because it featured a trim of hand-embroidered flowers in silk threads and organza.
She completed her look with Queen Mary’s Sapphire Bandeau Tiara and, after seeing her whole outfit on TV, Anna Wintour — a.k.a. the queen of fashion — said her gown was very “chic.”
“I think she’s amazing and the royal wedding had the whole world watching and I think that her choice was brilliant,” she previously said in a new video series called Go Ask Anna. “It was sophisticated. It was chic. It was grown-up. It was an English designer, albeit one that was working for a French house, which in a way was a message to the world: Yes, I’m from somewhere else, but I belong.” We couldn’t agree more!

Meghan’s Hair
Can we all take a moment to stop and appreciate Meghan’s wedding day hairstyle? She looked absolutely stunning when she waved to onlookers outside of St. George’s Chapel with her husband by her side.
Royal family hairstylist Sean Donaldson of Sean Donaldson Hair was right when he predicted what Meghan’s hairstyle was going to be. “I think she’s going to bring in her own edge and own style, but at the same time she’s still marrying into the royal family and they have their ways and their looks, so I would imagine that Meghan’s hair will go up,” he previously told Closer Weekly. “I can’t imagine her doing half-up, half-down because I think she’s going to want it distinguished between her and Kate [Middleton], since this is the next brother, son of Princess Diana — and this will be the next big royal family since Kate and [Prince] William‘s.”

The Moment We’ve All Been Waiting For
It was a big moment when Kensington Palace announced Prince Charles would be walking Meghan down the aisle because her father, Thomas Markle, was not in good health.
“Ms. Markle has asked his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St. George’s Chapel on her Wedding Day,” a statement released by the palace read. “The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way.”
However, when Meghan’s wedding day arrived, she only walked halfway down the aisle with Charles by her side. She first entered the Chapel by herself and Harry’s dad later joined her when she was halfway down the aisle. The big moment came when Charles handed Meghan off to Harry and they stared lovingly into each others eyes.
We could watch this part of the ceremony forever!

Their Vows
We’re guessing you’re dying to know what Harry and Meghan said to each other in their vows? Well, if you remember, the royal couple told each other how much they would cherish each other for life, and so far they’ve upheld their promise.
Harry told the duchess, “I, Harry, take you, Meghan, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part; according to God’s holy law. In the presence of God I make this vow.”
Meghan followed suit and said, “I, Meghan, take you, Harry, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part; according to God’s holy law. In the presence of God I make this vow.”
After they said their vows, they exchanged rings and said, “I give you this ring as a sign of our marriage. With my body, I honor you, all that I am I give to you and all that I have I share with you within the love of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” So romantic!

The Guests
Not only were Victoria Beckham and husband David Beckham in attendance, but Meghan also invited bestie Serena Williams to the celebration.
While looking back on her friend’s big day, Serena recently told The Project that watching the royal wedding “felt like we were literally watching history.”
“I feel like in a few years, when I look back at that moment, it’s just gonna be so historic. It’s gonna be something people never forget,” she explained. “The whole service was really wonderful and most of all, I just wanted to see my friend be happy and I think that’s what happened.”
Along with Serena and the Beckhams, Meghan and Harry also invited George Clooney and wife Amal Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Alexis Ohanian, James Corden and wife Julia Carey, Idris Elba and now-wife Sabrina Dhowre, and Elton John and husband David Furnish just to name a few.
Talk about a star-studded guest list!

The Entertainment
Of course the lovely couple had Sir Elton John perform at their wedding reception. Who else would they choose?! The musician, who was a great friend of Princess Diana, probably performed all of his best hits — like “Rocket Man” and “Tiny Dancer” — while the royal couple busted a move.
We would have loved to see that!

Their Cake
Even though we weren’t invited to the royal wedding, we could tell that Harry and Meghan’s wedding cake tasted as good as it looked! Their lemon elderflower pastry was made to “incorporate the bright flavors of spring,” Kensington Palace announced in a statement, saying the cake was “covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers.” Yum!
In the statement, the palace also announced who crafted the tasty pastry. “For their wedding cake Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have chosen pastry chef Claire Ptak, owner of the London-based bakery Violet Cakes,” they said.

The Decor
Everything was absolutely perfect on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding day! Thanks to their florist, St. George’s Chapel looked better than ever when the royal couple walked out as husband and wife.
“Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have chosen floral designer @philippacraddock to create the church flowers for their wedding,” the palace said in another statement. “The displays in St George’s Chapel will feature foliage from The Crown Estate and Windsor Great Park, and will use seasonal plants including branches of beech, birch and hornbeam, as well as white garden roses, peonies and foxgloves. The designs will reflect the wild and natural landscapes from which many of the plants will be drawn.”
So what exactly did Harry and Meghan do with all their left over decor? They donated it! “Today we got a very special delivery. Beautiful bouquets made from the #royalwedding flowers which we gave to our patients,” a spokesperson for St. Joseph’s Hospice revealed via Facebook one day after the royal wedding. “A big thank you to Harry and Meghan and florist Philippa Craddock. Our hospice smells and looks gorgeous. Such a lovely gesture.”
Hopefully when we get married, our wedding will look just as beautiful as Harry and Meghan’s!
