‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Star Luke Perry Dies at 52 After Suffering a Stroke
Rest in peace, Luke Perry. The Beverly Hills, 90210 star died on Monday, March 4 at age 52 after suffering a “massive stroke” a few days ago on Wednesday, February 27, Closer Weekly has confirmed.
In a statement obtained by Closer, the actor’s rep said: “He was surrounded by his children, Jack and Sophie, fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, stepfather Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”
Last week, a spokesperson for the L.A. Fire Department confirmed to Closer Weekly that firefighters and an ambulance responded to an unspecified medical aid request at Luke’s Sherman Oaks, California home at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and transported him via ambulance to a nearby hospital. His rep later told Us Weekly, “Mr. Perry is currently under observation at the hospital.”
In addition to playing Dylan McKay on 90210, Luke was known for starring on TV shows including Oz, Jeremiah, Windfall, John From Cincinnati, Body of Proof and Riverdale. He was also set to appear in Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood which costars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, among lots of other notable actors.
Just a few days before his death, FOX announced that Beverly Hills, 90210 is returning to the small screen for a limited series with the beloved teen drama’s original cast including Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling. According to Variety, the rebooted series will “come with a twist.” The outlet explained, “The actors will not be playing their characters from the show, but rather heightened versions of themselves. Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it’s time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running. But getting it going may make for more drama than the reboot itself.” It has been previously reported that Luke did not plan to join the new show’s cast.
Our thoughts are with Luke’s family and friends as they mourn his loss during this difficult time.
