Working with a beloved family member or a friend can often be very stressful but for Scandal actress Kerry Washington, she prefers to work with her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, any day!

“It’s been great,” she recently told Us Weekly about getting along with Nnamdi, 37, on the set of her new Broadway play, American Son. In the show, Kerry, 41, plays a distressed mother who’s trying to find her missing son at a Florida police station in the middle of the night. The show — which is produced by Nnamdi — has made Kerry and her hubby grow even closer and has reignited her love for the theater.

“Theater is a big part of why I fell in love with storytelling and with acting. The last time I did theater, it completely transformed my life. That’s where I met my husband,” she said in a previous interview with Marie Claire. “I love being with my family. My days off look like homework, reading, and watching stuff. Just hanging out, doing things we love to do.”

Parenting has also taught Kerry a lot about life and she noted that her children have become her teachers. “The children I got sent came in perfect, and I have to figure out how to grow and evolve so that I can support the truth of them. I’m in a constant state of learning and challenging myself to make room for their perfection and beauty,” she said.

Kerry and Nnamdi both share two beautiful children together, Isabelle Asomugha, 4, and Caleb Asomugha, 2. She’s also a step-parent to her husband’s 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. “We get sent by God the kids we need so we can grow in order to be the parents they need us to be,” Kerry added. How inspirational!
