It may be a new year, but that doesn’t mean the alleged rivalry between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton will be ending anytime soon.

When Meghan, 37, and Kate, 36, walked together during the royal family’s annual Christmas church service, many folks thought that the feud that has been reported for months was done and over with. But even if there’s a chance the feud is no more, that does not mean that this battle of the royal titans will ever go away. A source tells Us Weekly, “There will always be some competition between them. But they’re definitely getting on better now.” The source adds, “Are they the best of friends? No. Do they speak every waking second? No. Do they hate each other? Absolutely not.” The source reveals that the pair have such a mutual respect for the royal family that they are committed to making their relationship work.

In fact, the outlet reveals that the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex had a sit-down to discuss their issues with one another. “Kate opened up about feeling like Meghan had used her to climb the royal ladder,” the source said, adding that Meghan confessed that she felt snubbed by Kate. This opportunity to speak to each other helped both women, as they found it “a relief to clear the air,” the source explained.

It should come as no surprise that a rivalry between the two will continue to linger, especially since a family friend once revealed that Kate and Meghan are just seen as “very different characters” within the royal family. “Wives do change the dynamic, and [Prince Harry and Prince William] both have very strong wives,” a palace insider told People at the time. “If you bring two independent-minded women from the real world into the royal world, they are going to want to have an impact.”
