While we were all rejoicing and considering throwing a parade to celebrate Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle finally coming together on Christmas Day, perhaps we should all pause on the floats, because a source has revealed that the pair had to put on a show thanks to orders from up top.

Queen [Elizabeth] and [Prince] Charles have allowed the situation to play out without overtly interfering — but they both made it clear that Christmas was for the whole family to really come together,” a source tells The Sun, referring to Kate and Meghan reportedly not being fans of each other. The source adds, “That meant the two couples walking into church together as the Fab Four just like they had last year. Yes, it was awkward and uncomfortable given what’s gone on over the past 12 months. But the alternative of even more negativity on Christmas Day wasn’t worth thinking about.”

So yes, the Queen and Charles made it a point to let Meghan and Kate know that they will be getting along, if only for the public eye. Which is essentially what your mom wants when she says, “Just please get along with your sister. Only for today. It’s Christmas.” But instead of for the public, it’s for your other family members to see. Meghan and Kate can be seen laughing and smiling with each other in multiple photos on Christmas Day.

The source also reveals that the Queen told Kate and Meghan to put their differences aside by the time they sat down to watch her annual Christmas speech along with the rest of the nation. This report comes after we learned that the Queen was apparently “petrified” that the pair’s alleged feud was going to ruin Christmas. “The Queen is at her wits end over Kate and Meghan falling out,” the insider said at the time. “She’s 92 years old and has seen enough drama to last her a lifetime, and can’t believe how petty they’re being.”

So what we can gather from all this is that no one, and we mean no one, is going to ruin the Queen’s holiday, so it’s probably best everyone stays out of her way when the calendar strikes December.
