More often than not we see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prove to be relationship goals with their PDA. It’s rare, but every once in a while we also see Prince William and Kate Middleton show their own. However, since Harry and Meghan said “I do,” royal fans have noticed the Kate and Will — who married in April 2011 — has been a little bit more touchy-feely than usual.

In fact, the Duke and Duchesss of Sussex may have influenced their behavior. “It’s unusual to see William taking the lead in terms of public touch rituals with Kate but on Remembrance Sunday he performed this back-touch ritual, even splaying his thumb out to signal a rather protective form of affection,” body language expert Judi James told Daily Mail“Now that Meghan has joined The Firm, her own determinedly tactile behavior with Harry does seem to have had a profound ‘echo’ effect on William and Kate’s rituals.”

In addition to Remembrance Day, fans saw the duo show PDA at an event last month. Kate placed her hand on Will’s leg, which James said is “very strong signal of attraction.” Kate also touched her husband’s thigh at Princess Eugenie’s wedding in mid-October.

So, why have Kate and Will refrained from PDA up until now while Harry and Meg have always publicly shown their affection? One thing to note is that a lot of Harry and Meg’s PDA while they were dating and engaged occurred when the two weren’t working.

“There is no actual etiquette or royal protocol that says the couple must refrain from PDA. The likely reasoning is more that while traveling on a tour such as the India trip, technically the couple are working representatives of the British Monarchy. The couple are likely to show very little PDA, if any, to remain professional during their designated roles abroad,” Myka Meier once explained to People.

“Going to somewhere like the [Taj Mahal] is very much an official, straight-laced kind of event and you wouldn’t hold hands there if they’re there on an official visit,” longtime royals writer Judy Wade added. “But I noticed they did let their hair down at the sporty occasions on the tour, and there was a great deal of fun, and [William] kept putting his arms around [Kate]. Different types of occasions call for different types of behavior.”

On top of that, Kate and William are arguably more seen than Harry and Meg, even though they’re catching up since their wedding and first pregnancy. Not only has the couple bee married for seven years, but they’re also preparing to one day run the monarchy as King and Queen of England.
