Colin Firth Is the Dad of 3 Boys! Meet the ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ Star’s Children

You’ve seen him in hit movies like Bridget Jones’s Diary, Mamma Mia! and more, but rarely do fans get a glimpse of Colin Firth as a dad. Despite keeping his personal life as private as possible, nothing takes away from how much the Golden Globe winner adores his three sons, Will Firth, Luca Firth and Matteo Firth.

Colin’s life as a father first began when he met actress Meg Tilly on the set of Valmont over three decades ago. While the two portrayed on-screen lovers in the 1989 film, they also fell in love in real life and moved to Vancouver where they raised Meg’s children, Emily and David, whom she shares with ex-husband Tim Zinnemann. Meg and Colin then welcomed their first child together, Will, the following year in 1990.

The Kingsman: The Secret Service star and the Canadian actress never tied the knot and ultimately split by 1994. However, they maintained an amicable relationship. Meg even praised her former beau for not only being a “good father” to his son Will, but for “[staying] very present” in the lives of her two other children.

“He’s showed up for graduations [and] births of babies,” the Big Chill actress gushed to People in 2017. “He’s a sweetheart. When Will was in the house, he would stay with us, and when I go to England we always have dinner and go out together. If [Colin] wasn’t in the world, there would be a hole for me.”

Following his romance with Meg, Colin moved on with Livia Giuggioli. The Pride and Prejudice alum and the Italian film producer met on the set of the BBC drama Nostromo in 1995. Colin has said he was “instantly smitten” the moment he laid eyes on his future wife.

“I was on the steps of a church in this ancient city, and I saw her coming through the crowd, and it was a bolt to the heart,” he once recalled. “I couldn’t move.”

Colin and Livia tied the knot the following year in 1997 and expanded the movie star’s family with the birth of son Luca in 2001, followed by son Matteo in 2003. Sadly, the longtime lovebirds called it quits following 22 years of marriage in 2019.

Although the Love Actually star and his former spouse are no longer together, Colin has made it his top priority to be the best dad to his kids. “[Being a father] is what makes life most worth living, no question,” the proud dad has said, while noting that nothing takes precedence over his boys. “We have to make sure that we spend enough time together.”
