"[At first] we just tried to be really vague. We’re always remodeling our house or the yard, so when I moved out with the kids temporarily, we didn’t really get into it, and she didn’t ask," the 33-year-old Flip or Flop star told People.
"[Later], Taylor asked if we could get back together," Christina recalled. "We had to explain that sometimes couples get divorced but that she and [our one-year-old son], Brayden, are our No. 1 priority. We’ll always be a family."
Tarek, 35, and Christina previously tied the knot in 2009. The HGTV couple announced their separation after seven years of marriage in December 2016.
"[We] will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together," the duo said in a joint statement at the time of their split.
It was further revealed that Tarek and Christina actually separated in May 2016 — seven months before their divorce went public — following a scary domestic incident in their California home where police responded to "a call of a possibly suicidal male with a gun."
"Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage. We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed," they added in their split statement.
Since then, Tarek and Christina have continued filming their hit HGTV show, Flip or Flop, together. The father-of-two has reportedly been dating the family's nanny — and his ex-wife's friend — Alyssa Logan following his split from Christina while the blonde beauty was involved with contractor Gary Anderson. Christina reportedly ended her short relationship with Gary earlier this week.
