Christie Brinkley Reveals Her Grueling Broadway Schedule: ‘I’m Going From Zero to 60’ (Exclusive)
In just a couple of weeks, Christie Brinkley will be making her Broadway return in a revival of Chicago as Roxy Hart, the same role she made her stage debut in nearly a decade ago, and the model recently revealed just how rough her schedule in preparation for the show has already been.
“Well let me say, I’m going to need to pull out all the tricks because I’m going to hit the ground running!” the 65-year-old exclusively told Closer Weekly on Wednesday, March 27 at Lifetime’s American Beauty Star live finale in New York City. She continued, “I’m literally going from zero to 60. Tomorrow morning, I get on a flight early, fly to Phoenix. The next day I have a full dress rehearsal. I meet my cast for the first time at the full dress rehearsal. And then roll right into an evening performance! So that’s two shows.”
She added, “The next day it’s Saturday, so it’s a matinee and a show, then Sunday a matinee and a show. So my first three days back after seven years of absence is quite a schedule! And to top it off, it’s west coast time! So the evening show starts at 11 o’clock at night New York time, and at 1am in the morning I’ll still be up there running around the stage.” Crazy! But even with all the chaos, the National Lampoon’s Vacation star has no complaints.
“I mean, it’s just so exciting. I cannot wait to get back out there and I’ve had a lot of fun rehearsing, and I just can’t believe it,” she gushed. “I’m just thanking my lucky stars that this opportunity has come around again. It’s just amazing.” But how exactly does the businesswoman find all this energy?
“I had a similar thing happen when I did it the first time around when I played in London,” Christie explained. “And I literally got off the plane, had a couple hours, went straight to the morning talk shows, you know, then did two shows that day as well. And there’s just something about energy in a theater and the live audience, and of course the material is so amazing.” She continued, “I’m always the first one in the theater and I love hearing it fill up, and the sounds and the head’s poking in my door, ‘hey, you know [how are you] doing?!’ you know, and it’s just this magic that comes to life. And I’m just like, ‘I’m part of this right now! I can’t believe it!’ And I think it’s all of that combined that just gives you the energy.”
While she recently celebrated her 65th birthday, Christie is busier than ever it seems, but she understands that a person still has to find a passion in life. “You know, it’s like every phase of your life is, you know, you’ve got to find something to love about it!” she said. “And I have lots to love about my life right now.”
