After rumors kicked around that Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt were romantically involved, the South African beauty shut all of that down by dropping quite the bit of news when she revealed that not only is she single at the moment, but she’s been that way for the last decade.
“I’ve been single for 10 years, the 43-year-old told Entertainment Tonight while promoting her new film Long Shot at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 4, adding that people should ask her out because “it’s not a long shot.” Well that’s one way to promote your movie.
“Somebody just needs to grow a pair and step up,” she continued. “I’m shockingly available.” This comes as a surprise, especially since the Monster actress was with fellow actor Sean Penn from 2013-2015. The Oscar-winner also made sure to add that she wants someone to “take her off the market.” Although perhaps Charlize was just rounding up the years she’s been single, as she was in a relationship with Stuart Townsend from 2002 to 2010, after the pair met on the set of their film Trapped.
But Charlize hasn’t been alone all these years, as she’s been kept company by her two adopted children — Jackson, 7, and August, 3. And being a mother has always been on top of her list. “I had a strong need to be a mom,” she once shared, adding that she also cared deeply about giving back. “I was always aware that there are so many children in this world who don’t have families. This was always my first choice.”
And while Charlize did eventually become a mother, she did reveal that the journey wasn’t an easy one. “I struggled mentally through the adoption process,” she revealed at the time. And when several situations failed to work out, the Mad Max: Fury Road costar said the letdown “crushed” her hopes. “Some of the lowest points in my life were dealing with the first time I filed.”
We’re just glad that everything worked out! And now to see if Charlize welcomes a boyfriend …
