We're not exactly sure what Alan Thicke's recent comments about his upcoming reality show mean, but it certainly has us intrigued!
While promoting the 14-episode series, Unusually Thicke, Alan describes it as "Honey Boo Boo meets Larry David...[We're] looking for that sweet spot."
How those two go together, we couldn't tell you, but the Growing Pains star makes it clear the show is "pseudo-reality."
"It's a real family in real-life situations, but with a bit of a wink to a sitcom plot, if you will," Alan explains.
"There's an episode where I'm offered the job as the spokesperson for a male enhancement pill...of course the family's outraged I turned it down — and then David Hasselhoff gets it. Outrage!" he jokes.
An ongoing source of tension on the series will be a debate between Alan and wife Tanya about having another baby. The actor already has three children from previous marriages, including singer Robin Thicke, who Alan reveals "pops in a couple of times."
When we talked to Alan last November, the couple had just finished taping the series and he admitted they had their doubts about doing the show.
“We had reservations about doing a typical reality show where you throw wine at each other and tip tables over,” he told Closer. “We wanted to do a more lighthearted one.”
Tune in to the premiere of Unusually Thicke, airing April 16 at 10 p.m. on TV Guide Network.
