Val Kilmer Makes Rare Public Appearance to Introduce Special Screening of ‘Top Gun’ — Pics!

What a surprise! Val Kilmer stunned fans recently when he appeared on stage to introduce a special screening of the original Top Gun.

The 59-year-old made a rare public appearance in Austin, Texas, at a screening of his iconic 1986 film. The actor wore a pink shirt, khaki shorts and a black hat on stage. He was also all smiles, as he waved at the crowd. The event was hosted by the Austin Food and Wine Alliance and Rolling Roadshow. Val played Tom ‘Ice Man’ Kazansky alongside Tom Cruise‘s Maverick in the action movie. The pair will be returning for the sequel.

“Back then, they hadn’t been in any war for 15 or 20 years at that point,” the film’s director, Joe Kosinski, told ComingSoon about the highly anticipated sequel. “The tone of that movie and what those guys were doing was very different. Now, here in 2017, the Navy’s been at war for 20 years. It’s just a different world now, so you can’t remake the first movie.”

“That being said, I certainly want to recreate the experience of that movie, which gives you a front-seat into the world of Naval aviation and what it’s like to be in a fighter jet. The approach is going to be appropriate for the times we live in,” Joe added. We can’t wait!
