Actor Tom Cruise is a role model for his Top Gun: Maverick costars! A source close to the star exclusively revealed to Closer Weekly that Tom, 56, has motivated the movie’s cast to get in shape for the upcoming film by following his intense exercise regimen.

“Tom is a workout freak who gets up before dawn and hits the gym for two or three hours. He’s the motivation behind his costars’ beefed up workouts. He’s got his handpicked cast [Glen Powell, Miles Teller and even Jennifer Connelly] doing marathon and triathlon-style routines even on days when they’re not working,” the source said. “Tom has them running up to 12 miles and lifting weights and dropping down to do 200 push-ups.”

Since the last couple of movies that Glen, 30, starred in were rom-coms and dramas — such as Set It Up and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society — he’s been taking his training in the gym very seriously for the action-packed flick.

“Glen is so hard on himself because it hasn’t been an overnight success story for him. He’s been plugging away in little roles for years and years and is trying to show people that he’s ready to play with the big boys,” the source admitted. “In that sense, Tom kind of is the ultimate role model for him.”

Tom has had an impressive 38-year career in Hollywood and along with Top Gun: Maverick, he’s been working on two new Mission: Impossible films that are set to be released in 2021 and 2022. “I’ve wanted to make movies since I was four years old,” he said in a previous interview with People. “To be able to entertain an audience, that was my dream.” We can’t wait for Top Gun: Maverick to hit theaters soon!
