While the holiday season is typically the time of year parents go overboard with practically everything, Sandra Bullock just revealed she’s taking a new approach to Christmas. In a new interview, the Bird Box actress admitted to overdoing holiday decorating and gift-giving in the past but is changing her ways this year. “We just stopped,” the Oscar winner revealed to Today‘s Hoda Kotb on Tuesday, Dec. 18. “Because there’s so much happening in the world where people don’t have anything.”

Instead of focusing on her “usually overdone” house, Sandra said she wants to spend less time worrying about whether or not her home looks good enough this holiday season. “I overdo it and then I panic that I didn’t do enough,” the 54-year-old confessed. “And then I get more and then everyone else has overdone it.”

However, Sandra said she had to run the idea of making Christmas more low-key by her two kids, Louis, 8, and Laila, 6. “We said, ‘Why don’t we just make this [holiday] about other people?'” Sandra recalled of her and her boyfriend Bryan Randall’s proposition to the children. “And they were amazing about it. So Christmas is three small gifts.”

Sandra and Bryan have been together since 2015, and even though the actress adopted her two kiddos as a single mom, a source dished to Closer Weekly in June that Bryan “is an amazing, dedicated father.” Which is a good thing considering it wasn’t until after Sandra adopted Louis and Laila that she understood her purpose. “I finally realized, ‘Oh, this is what I was supposed to do when I grew up,” Sandra said about raising her children. “Not be an actress; be a mom.” Aww!

But Sandra isn’t the only one who parenting comes naturally to. “We’re raising our children to be fearless. At least I hope I’m raising my kids that way,” Sandra has said. And when it comes to Bryan, she joked that he is “sort of No. 1” with her kids “because he’s more fun and has better treats.” Sounds like they make a great team!
