In the latest issue, on newsstands now, friends and family of the Oscar-winning actress Sally Field open up to Closer Weekly sharing what they admire most about Sally and how they predict she will celebrate her upcoming milestone.
“Sally amazed me from the first time I saw her when I was two-years-old,” her brother Richard Field tells Closer. “She’s still amazing.”
For her birthday in November, Richard predicts his sister will want to spend it having a quiet dinner at home with her family. “She wouldn’t want a big celebration,” he says.

Tom Hanks, her costar in 1988’s Punchline and 1994’s Forrest Gump, can’t help but gush about her indefatigable work ethic and almost supernatural ability to disappear into a role.
“I played a guy who made out with her and a guy she gave birth to,” Tom exclusively told Closer at the Simply Shakespeare benefit in LA. “She is an absolute stone-cold genius.”

Eve Ensler, the playwright famed for The Vagina Monologues, agrees. “Sally is a true artist,” she tells Closer. “She represents ordinary people and makes them deeply extraordinary.
Sally can’t help but take pride in the lessons she’s learned and the redemption she’s earned. “Seventy is old and that’s OK,” she has said. “I’ve gathered strength behind my years. I have value that doesn’t come when you’re 50 or 40 or 30 or 20. It doesn’t come until you’ve been in that saddle for a number of years.”
