Newlywed Meghan Markle took a style cue from Queen Elizabeth when she wore her borrowed tiara to St. George’s Chapel on May 19. Though the Queen loved Meghan’s wedding day look, she apparently thought that the young royal should have left her wedding veil at home because she was not following tradition.

According to The Sun, Elizabeth thought that it was inappropriate for Meghan to wear a veil since she was getting married for the second time. Traditionally, a bride would only wear a veil for their first marriage and since Meghan was previously married to Trevor Engleson, she thought that it would be best to just wear a tiara.

Although Meghan listened to what Queen Elizabeth had to say, she still followed her own style rules and wore the veil anyway. According to a book by reporter Robert Jobson, Prince Harry reportedly still supported his wife and told the wedding staffers, “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets.”

The stress from the royal wedding apparently made Harry have a pre-wedding meltdown, but he only wanted his wife to be happy on their big day. However, Queen Elizabeth was sure to warn Meghan and Harry that they have to always be kind to their employees.

“There was a very heated exchange that prompted the Queen to speak to Harry. She said, ‘Meghan cannot have whatever she wants,” an insider shared with The Sun. “The message from the Queen was very much Meghan needed to think about how she speaks to staff members and be careful to follow family protocols.”

As a young royal, Meghan has set her own rules and has taken daring style risks at times. Since becoming a royal, Meghan has impacted the fashion industry immensely — so let’s just say this might not be the last time a member of the royal family wears a veil to their second wedding.
