Watching his five-year-old son, Noah, battle cancer was not easy for Michael Bublé. Though Noah is now in remission, the dad-of-three recently opened up about the scary ordeal in a new interview with People and said that his son’s health issues have made him into a completely different person than the man he used to be.

“Listen, I am different,” the 43-year-old singer said. “You don’t go through big things in your life, dramatic things like I’ve gone through or my wife has gone through without it having an effect on you.”

“One of the things about going through something that my family has been through is that it gives you great perspective and one of those points of perspective is that it really allows you to appreciate the good things,” he previously said on Australia’s Today Show.

Noah was diagnosed with cancer three years ago and since then the doting dad has been very open about his son’s health. “It sucks. It still sucks,” he said and noted that it took some time for him and his wife, Luisana Lopilato, to handle the bad news. “What we went through was the worst possible thing that you could hear as a parent, and as maybe a human being. I much rather would have it have been me. Many times I wish that it had been.”

Though Noah’s cancer took a huge toll on his family, Michael admitted that it also brought him closer to Luisana, 31. “My wife and I, we got happy, we fell in love again,” he said in a previous interview with Stellar Magazine.Food never tasted so good, music never sounded so good, my relationship with my family… all of it.”

Now that Noah is doing a lot better today, Michael has happily returned to the recording studio and just released his 10th studio albumLove. “My kids are good,” he said in a new interview with the UK’s the Mirror about his life since Noah’s remission. “That’s all I care about!”
