It’s been one month since Megyn Kelly was abruptly fired from the Today show following her racist comments on air. Since she lost her eponymous series, Megyn Kelly Today, the TV personality has been focusing on her family. In her first interview since the controversy, Megyn specifically opened up about her late father’s death.

The 48-year-old’s father, Edward, sadly died 10 days before Christmas when Megyn was just 15 years old. “It was a sudden heart attack, and it changed my family forever. My last sight of him was of him sitting on the couch, looking at the Christmas tree,” she told DailyMailTV on Thursday, Nov. 29. “What I wouldn’t give now to have that moment back. To have just one more chance to tell him how much I love him.”

The loss of her father taught Megyn, who is a wife to Douglas Brunt and a mom to three children, the importance of family — especially around the holidays. “Nothing matters except the people around the tree,” she shared.

The blonde beauty also dished on her family’s sweet traditions. “Doug and I are always up before the kids, counting down the moments until they wake up,” Kelly said of her favorite Christmas morning ritual. “When they go out to the living room one of us runs ahead to videotape their reaction — it’s always poorly lit and too long for video but the moment is too precious to let it pass without trying to stop time for a minute.” But there’s one activity her family won’t participate in: caroling. “I have tried for years to get everyone to go but let’s just say not every family member is as enthusiastic as I am,” she shared.

Megyn’s departure from NBC was previously revealed in late October. “This morning, NBC News host Megyn Kelly is in talks with the network about her imminent departure, according to a source familiar with the situation,” a tweet from the popular morning NBC show read at the time. Soon after, it was reported that she’s finalizing a $30 million exit deal with the network. Here’s hoping she works everything out by Christmas…
