If you couldn’t tell already, Meghan Markle takes her title as Prince Harry‘s wife and the Duchess of Sussex very seriously. In fact, unlike most other members of the British monarchy, the former Suits actress writes her own speeches for royal events, according to the ABC News documentary, Meghan’s New Life: The Real Princess Diaries.

The documentary aired on Nov. 22 and gave royal fans an intimate look into what Meghan’s life has been like since she tied the royal knot with Harry on May 19. Let’s rewind back to October when Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, were on their first royal tour together as a married couple, shall we? Ahead of Meghan’s speech in Fiji, royal commentator Omid Scobie noticed that the Duchess’ speech appeared to feature “handwritten scribbles.”

In the documentary, Scobie said that he “asked a palace aide, ‘Has she written this herself?’ as that’s quite unusual for the royals.” This speech was and is monumental considering it was Meghan’s first royal tour speech. Scobie noted, “This was all her. She’s been up for days working on this speech.”

In her speech, the Duchess candidly opened up about the importance of education and women’s empowerment. Not only that, but she made her time up at the podium extremely personal and relatable as she admitted that her sole reason for being able to attend college was because of scholarships, financial aid, and work-study where her earnings from a job on campus went directly towards her tuition.

“Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to receive the education they want, but more importantly the education they have the right to receive,” the former actress said in her speech. “And for women and girls in developing countries, this is vital.” You tell ’em, girl!

In the documentary, Vanity Fair‘s Michelle Ruiz talked about how much of a mark Meghan is making on the royal family. “In these times and for this family, it is pushing the envelope to give speeches on feminism,” Ruiz began. “It’s certainly something the Queen doesn’t do, nor does Kate Middleton do. Meghan is the feminist princess of our dreams.” Truly inspiring!
