Here’s Why Meghan Markle Didn’t Open Any Baby Shower Gifts — And It Has Nothing to Do With Prince Harry!

While we all continue to wait for the royal baby’s arrival, we couldn’t help but notice all the presents that were left unopened at Meghan Markle‘s recent baby shower in NYC. Now, we’re learning exactly why that was the case.

On February 19, the Duchess of Sussex, 37, had a luxurious bash with her closest pals — including Amal Clooney and Serena Williams. Since the former Suits actress of course received gifts for her first child, it was originally believed she held off on opening them because she wanted to wait for her husband, Prince Harry. Turns out that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.

“The reason they didn’t open gifts at the shower wasn’t because Meghan wanted to open the gifts with Harry, but because they would have revealed the baby’s gender,” a source tells Us Weekly. It seems that the royal pair has wanted to keep their child’s gender a surprise for quite some time, even telling royals fans the same. Perhaps the couple are not be as interested in that as the rest of us are.

“Meghan has been talking to some of her friends about the birth and how she and Harry plan to raise their baby. Her exact word was ‘fluid,'” a source recently told Vanity Fair. “She said they plan to raise their baby with a fluid approach to gender and they won’t be imposing any stereotypes.”

Regardless of the case, one insider says this baby will shake up tradition. “[Meghan] and Harry agree that their children won’t have royal titles,” a source once said. “It’s about as much normality as possible” and the child “will have chores and a job one day.”

They also revealed that Meghan has said she “wants them to feel like they can grow up to be whomever they want to be. Just like her!”
