Even stars get starstruck sometimes, as Kelly Clarkson just proved to be true. The former American Idol winner just met Cher for the first time on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, DC, and she couldn’t help but gush over the experience (can you blame her?).

Entertainment Tonight caught the funny interaction between the two music icons. “Hi! I’m Kelly Clarkson! Nice to meet you!” the 36-year-old gushed to a smiling Cher. “I have never met you, I’ve been talking about you this whole time going, ‘She’s right behind me!!'”

She, understandably, continued her fangirling moment throughout the entire encounter. Laughing, she said, “I’m a big fan, obviously everyone here is, I’m gonna stop talking. OK, yeah, I get very nervous.”

Cher, 72, had the same excitement as Kelly. “I’m so happy to meet you!” she warmly said back. Kelly responded, “I’m so proud of y’all tonight, I’m here singing for Reba [McEntire], but I was so jealous! I was like, ‘Can I sing for Cher too?'”

Kelly echoed her thrill on social media with a stunning black and white snapshot of the two. “I met Cher!!!” she captioned the pic. “My life is better than everyone else’s today!”

Fans immediately took to the comments to express their jealousy. “OMG. Both my idols in one pic!” one wrote. “I am jealous. I am going to see her in concert next year,” another follower added. “I think that’s a lot of diva in one room,” one joked.

Kelly really attended the event to celebrate her former mother-in-law, Reba, even though she also got to meet Cher in the process. The mom-of-two gushed over Reba’s honor to ET. “It’s just such a prestigious award to get in the first place, so that’s amazing. Especially [since] I thought maybe she already had this. Like, I didn’t know,” she said. “So whenever they called and asked if I would sing with her I was like, ‘Of course!'”

The Voice coach concluded, “[I’m] insanely busy but I’d do anything for her because she’s really been not only such a cool idol musically, but a really great friend and a great family member. She’s just a really impeccable human.”
