Keeping it humble! Katie Holmes‘ daughter, Suri Cruise, is now a teenager — she turned 13-years-old on Thursday, April 18 — and the actress has done quite the job to keep the youngster from becoming the stereotypical spoiled celebrity child.

“Suri is a great kid,” a source who has worked with the 40-year-old told Us Weekly. “She is so sweet and well-mannered. She’s extremely polite and respectful. She’s just a good girl who is a joy to be around. Katie has done things right with her because she’s very grounded and down to earth. She doesn’t come across as spoiled or like a celebrity kid at all. She’s kind and she always shows gratitude.”

That is all thanks to the First Daughter star who, according to the insider, makes sure to “travel with [Suri] on commercial planes and not travel private.” “She’s a normal tween. She loves pop music and fashion and hanging out with her friends. She’s into ballet and dancing. That’s one of her favorite hobbies. She’s curious and loves to learn. She does well in school,” the source added.

The Dawson Creek alum shares the teen with ex-husband Tom Cruise so, while there is plenty of star power, Katie still knows how important it is to keep Suri around family.

“Suri has grown up spending a lot of time with Katie’s family in Ohio, and she’s close to her grandparents and aunts,” the insider continued. “They are a close-knit family and have done everything they can to be there for her and to help with her upbringing.”

It’s clear that Katie is going above and beyond to keep her daughter grounded. It was just last month that the pair was seen heading out of Greece after volunteering at a Syrian refugee camp. While there, the two worked with the nonprofit Artolution, an organization which “promotes healing, resilience and positive social change” through art, according to its website.
