As a married couple of eight years, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt will never put their family second. “Family comes first no matter what, and that’s non-negotiable,” John recently told People at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. “We have been working a lot this year and we feel so blessed, but at the same time our kids come first and being together comes first.”

Even when the two actors are away shooting a movie, they try to hurry home to their two young daughters, Hazel Krasinski, 4, and Violet Krasinski, 2. The 39-year-old actor explained that being with his family “is not a job or a duty, it’s something I just can’t wait to do. I can’t wait to get back to them. We always make time to see each other.” And Emily feels the same way. “Family is the foundation for why we are able to go off and have fun and have these incredible experiences,” she gushed.

Emily, 35, recently wrapped up filming Marry Poppins Returns with Meryl Streep and Colin Firth, which is set to hit theaters on Dec. 19. “I try to take big stretches between [projects] to be with the kids. I’m not going to work until next June and finished my last one in September,” she said.

The two actors have grown accustomed to working together, too. When they both starred in A Quiet Place, John was blown away by Emily’s performance on-screen. “I’ve always been [her] biggest fan, but not until you’re in the room when she does what she does do you know why she’s so phenomenal,” he raved about his wife. “She’s unbelievable!”

John co-wrote and directed A Quiet Place, which was well received by many critics. “When we screened it for the first time ever in the world, that was truly one of those moments I’ll never forget because I think it not only changed my career, it changed my life,” he recalled. “That was truly an unforgettable night!”
