Just a few months ago, Diane Kruger and her boyfriend, Norman Reedus welcomed their first child, a baby girl. But the German actress is now revealing that at one point in her life, she stayed away from motherhood because she was too “selfish.”

The 42-year-old recently spoke to digital magazine, PorterEdit, about not rushing to have a kid. “I think as you grow older, you learn that things come to you when you’re ready for them,” she told the outlet. “I’m glad I waited to have a baby.” And while she’s busy raising a child now, Diane revealed that she didn’t always want to be a mother. “I was too selfish. But by the time I got to about 35, I thought, yes, I probably do want one. But then you have to wait for the right person to come along,” she said. And, thankfully, that person eventually arrived in her life!

The National Treasure star and the Walking Dead actor, 50, have been together since 2016. Prior to his relationship with Diane, Norman welcomed a son, Mingus Reedus, 19, with his ex-partner Helena Christensen. While chatting with PorterEdit, Diane also revealed how her boyfriend’s fatherhood experience has been a huge positive for her as a new mom. “Norman is so calm, and he teaches me a lot, because he’s done it before,” she explained. “There’s definitely something to be said for being with someone who is doing it for the second time.”

It certainly seems like the pair is extremely happy with where they are in their relationship and with their small family, but that doesn’t exactly mean that walking down the aisle is out of the question. “Never say never [to marriage],” the former model said. “I would have a party. I’d like to wear a nice dress. But I’m not religious, so that aspect of marriage doesn’t mean anything to me.” She added, “There’s obviously a financial security that comes with marriage, but I’m financially independent — I don’t need anyone for that.”

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see if Diane and Norman decide to tie the knot in the future!
