Cher Surprises Audience By Singing Onstage On Opening Night Of Broadway’s ‘The Cher Show’ — Watch!
What a treat! Those who attended the opening night of Broadway’s The Cher Show on Monday, Dec. 3 saw more than just a Broadway show. The audience was graced with the presence of Cher herself — who joined the cast on stage for a rendition of “If I Could Turn Back Time” after the finale.
“Talk about an encore! Ladies and gentleman: Cher,” the show’s Instagram account captioned the lively clip of the 72-year-old at the Neil Simon Theatre in NYC. Fans quickly took to the comments to gush over the guest appearance. “I can’t wait to see this show in a few weeks!!!!” one fan commented. “Epic!!!!” another follow noted. One wrote, “Serious goosebumps. Amazing. Love.”
The production chronicles the past six decades of Cher’s stardom and includes 35 of her hit songs, her big Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy wins, and a collection of Bob Mackie gowns. It also documents her relationship with her two late ex-husbands, Sonny Bono and Gregg Allman.
Cher gushed about the play to a group of reporters at the premiere. When asked what it’s like watching the show, she replied, “It’s very fun sometimes. And it’s very very difficult sometimes. It’s just so close to the bone.” She added, “The actors in this play. I couldn’t have gone anywhere and found better people. I’m not kidding. When I see them sometimes I’m like in tears.”
Many celebrities were in attendance for the big premiere, including Hoda Kotb, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Adam Rippon, Tina Fey, Kathy Griffin, Sandra Lee, Bernadette Peters, Nia Vardalos, and more. Hoda took to Instagram to share her experiences from the fun night. “This happened xx. The original!” she captioned the clip of Cher singing.
In an interview with Elle last month, Cher reflected on what got her to the point of having her very own Broadway show. “Look, I’ve had huge failures in my life. Huge dips and ‘Oh, you’re over. You’re over.’ This one guy once said, ‘You’re over,’ every year for I don’t know how many years,” she explained. “And I just said to him, ‘You know what? I will be here when you’re not doing what you do anymore.’ I had no idea if I was right or wrong. I was just tired of hearing him say it.” Keep on being you, Cher!
