Actor Bradley Cooper is having quite the awards season this year! On Sunday, February 10, the Oscar-nominated star, 44, was lucky enough to chat with Prince William at the BAFTAs in London — he was attending the special event with his wife, Kate Middleton — and the prince joked about Bradley’s unexpectedly impressive singing in A Star Is Born.

“Congratulations, great film. I didn’t know you could sing!” William, 36, told Bradley after he won Best Original Music for A Star Is Born that night. Funnily enough, the actor replied to the royal’s compliment with, “I didn’t either,” which got a laugh from the father-of-three. The duchess’ husband also praised Lady Gaga‘s performance in the drama and asked Bradley if he always had the singer, 32, in mind for the role of Ally.

“Not originally,” Bradley admitted. “But then it was dormant for a while, and I saw her perform and that was it.” William added, “It’s a really amazing story.”

While at the 2019 BAFTAs, William and Kate, 37, were able to talk to many celebs including Rami Malek — who is also the frontrunner for many to take home the Best Actor Academy Award for Bohemian Rhapsody — Black Panther star Letitia Wright, and BlacKkKlansman director Spike Lee. The duchess also shared her own moment with The Favourite‘s Olivia Colman, who won the Best Actress BAFTA award for her portrayal of Queen Anne.

Meghan Markle‘s sister-in-law showed up to the star-studded awards show wearing a one-shouldered Alexander McQueen dress adorned with fabric flowers. She also paid tribute to her mother-in-law, Princess Diana, by wearing a pair of the late royal’s pearl and diamond earrings. Diana previously wore the jewelry on numerous occasions and this is said to be the first time Kate has ever worn this particular set of earrings once owned by the Princess of Wales.
