When Kate Middleton stepped out for the 2019 BAFTAs on Sunday, February 10, she looked totally gorgeous in a winter white gown — but it was the Duchess of Cambridge’s special jewelry that really turned heads!

At the star-studded event, Kate, 37 — who wowed in a flowy, one-shouldered Alexander McQueen dress adorned with fabric flowers — paid tribute to her late royal mother-in-law, Princess Diana, by wearing a pair of her pearl and diamond earrings. Diana previously donned the glam jewelry on several occasions but most notably while accepting the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation back in 1995. This is thought to be the very first time Kate has ever worn this particular pair of South Sea pearl earrings once owned by Diana, though she has borrowed the late royal’s other jewelry on many occasions. When she tied the knot with Prince William in April 2011, the mom-of-three was lucky enough to inherit many pieces of jewelry from Diana’s personal collection, including her famous diamond and sapphire engagement ring.

This is the third consecutive year that Kate and William, 36, have stepped out to attend the BAFTas in London. Last year, Kate donned a dark green Jenny Packham gown while pregnant with the couple’s third child, Prince Louis. And in 2017, the duchess looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder floral patterned dress designed by Alexander McQueen.

The big winners at the 2019 BAFTAs included Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz for The Favourite, Rami Malek for Bohemian Rhapsody, Bradley Cooper for A Star Is Born, Spike Lee for BlackKklansman, Mahershala Ali for Green Book, and Alfonso Cuarón for Roma. We can’t wait to see what Kate wears to next year’s BAFTAs!
