More than a year after Nicole Kidman‘s weird clapping at the Oscars went viral online, Antonio Banderas, 58, is having his own GIF-worthy moment after fans noticed his strange clap at the Emmys on Monday, Sept. 17.

“Why was Antonio Banderas clapping like… that,” one person wrote one Twitter with another similarly adding, “We need to talk about how Antonio Banderas was just clapping with claw fingers.” A third person tweeted, “Antonio Banderas, that is the weirdest clapping technique I have ever seen. #Emmys.”

Unsurprisingly, Antonio’s clap was quickly compared to Nicole’s viral clapping moment at the Oscars in February 2017. “Antonio Banderas clapping is the new Nicole Kidman clapping meme let’s gooooo,” one person tweeted. Another Emmys viewer commented, “Uh… if we meme’d Nicole Kidman clapping, we MUST meme the hell out of whatever Antonio Banderas was just doing with his hands. #Emmys.”

After GIFs of Nicole’s Oscars clap took over the internet last year, the 51-year-old star actually defended her clapping and explained the strange moment happened because she was protecting her borrowed jewelry from getting damaged.

“It was really awkward. I was like, ‘I wanna clap, I don’t wanna not be clapping’ — that’d be worse, right? Like ‘Why isn’t Nicole clapping?’ So, therefore, I’m clapping but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not mine — but it was absolutely gorgeous — and I was terrified of damaging it,” Nicole explained during a radio interview with Australian duo Kyle and Jackie O.

A few months later, Nicole also opened up about the viral moment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I don’t clap like that. I do not clap like that — that is a weird lens! It’s the Cinderella thing — you borrow these expensive jewels and I’m like, ‘I must not damage these diamonds cause I have to give them back at midnight!’ And they went back beautifully intact — not a scratch on them,” she said. We’ll just have to wait for Antonio to speak out about his strange clap next!
