Save the earth! Alec Baldwin is all about preserving the planet for future generations, and he proved that once again when he spoke about how a meeting with indigenous people impacted his way of thinking.

The 61-year-old was at the UN headquarters to moderate a panel on threats to “Forest Defenders” and took a moment to speak to numerous journalists about his commitment to the environment. The actor revealed that he finds it “very, very unsettling” that indigenous people who understand better than anyone else the places where they live face strong opposition from those in power who want “to get rid of them by whatever means necessary” and gain control of natural resources on the land.

Alec continued and also noted the deforestation of the rainforests in the Amazon and Asia that are “the lungs of the planet.”

The 30 Rock alum also mentioned global warming and added that this “may be our last [chance] in the next 20 years” to take action against it.

“There are things that we just can’t imagine that can happen in terms of the food supply, in terms of climate change, in terms of flooding in coastal areas in the United States and beyond,” Hilaria Baldwin‘s husband explained. “The time is now to make certain sacrifices … so that this planet will remain habitable.”

Alec has five kids — Ireland, 23, Carmen, 5, Rafael, 3, Leonardo, 2, Romeo, 11 months — so it comes as no surprise that he wants to make sure the planet is better off for his children and their grandchildren. The It’s Complicated star shares his eldest child with his ex-wife Kim Basinger, and the rest of the bunch with Hilaria, 35. Alec once revealed how happy he is that his children, especially his daughters, have their moms in their lives.

“I’m grateful that both daughters I have — from two different marriages — have very capable mothers. Because the mother is the one who is going to teach the girl, I think, how to get around in the world,” he once said.
