Three days after being admitted to a Houston hospital for respiratory-related issues, former first lady Barbara Bush’s condition remains unchanged, according to a family spokesperson.
Though details of what exactly the 88-year-old is suffering from have not been released, a statement on Tuesday night revealed that Barbara is in “great spirits” and has received visits from her husband and family.
Barbara, who is married to 41st president George H.W. Bush, also received get well messages from former president Bill Clinton and current first family, the Obamas.
"Michelle and I send our best wishes to Mrs. Bush for a speedy recovery," president Barack Obama said in a statement yesterday.
"Barbara is blessed to have both a loving, supportive family by her side and a vibrant spirit that we hope will have her feeling better soon.
"I know I speak for Americans everywhere when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with Barbara and her family on this New Year’s Day.”
Clinton wrote via Twitter:
I'll be rooting for Barbara Bush's full recovery while she's rooting for Baylor today. All my best to her and @GeorgeHWBush.— Bill Clinton (@billclinton) January 1, 2014

Baylor University is located about 3 hours Northwest of Houston and lost in an upset to Central Florida in the Fiesta Bowl Wednesday night. Barbara was reportedly watching from the hospital.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that Barbara has been hospitalized for health issues. When she was first lady in 1989, she revealed that she suffered from Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid.
The disorder required her to take medication and she also underwent radiation as part of her treatment. In 2010, she was admitted to the hospital for suffering a mild relapse of the disease.
In 2008, the Bush-family matriarch underwent surgery for a perforated ulcer and the following year heart surgery for a severe narrowing of the main heart valve.
Luckily, Barbara’s son, and the 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush is settled nearby in Dallas, TX.
