It is very well known that David Beckham was arguably the most popular soccer player on the planet while he was still active, so it would be no surprise to learn that his sons would try to follow in his path, although Victoria Beckham recently revealed that isn’t the case.

During an interview with the Financial Times, the 44-year-old fashion designer said that her 16-year-old son Romeo was sad because he had decided to quit soccer, but didn’t “want to let daddy down.” The former Spice Girl responded with, “Daddy just wants you to be happy.”

“All three boys used to have contracts with Arsenal,” the businesswoman explained. “Brooklyn [her 20-year-old son] was the first to say he didn’t want to play any more. And then Romeo decided he didn’t want to do it either.” She continued, “I remember Romeo sitting in the bath getting really upset saying, ‘I don’t want to let Daddy down.'”

David, 43, made a name for himself and became known worldwide for his play on the field. He and Victoria have been married for 20 years, and aside from Romeo and Brooklyn, they also have two more kids — son Cruz, 14, and daughter Harper, 7. David once mentioned how being in a relationship for so long does not come easy.

“To have been married for the amount of time that we have, it’s always hard work,” he once said during an interview with Australian TV show The Sunday Project. “It becomes a little bit more complicated.” He added, “Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference, and I’ve noticed that with my children,” he shared, noting the difficulties around the media attention the family-of-six experiences. “The thing we have to do is protect our children.”

It is very clear that this is one tight-knit family that will support each other regardless of the case — great to see!
