Who wouldn’t love to be Kate Hudson‘s mother-in-law?! While attending the Women’s Cancer Research Fund’s Unforgettable Evening Benefit Gala in Beverly Hills, California on Thursday, February 28, Rita Wilson revealed that the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star was almost her daughter-in-law!

“I could have had little Kate Hudson babies,” the 62-year-old joked as she introduced Kate, 39, at the prestigious event where she was being honored. The Mamma Mia! star then went on to explain that Kate would frequent their house when she was a young girl because she had a crush on Rita’s stepson, Colin Hanks. “Kate used to bicycle over to my house when she was 14 to see if my son Colin Hanks was home,” Rita explained of Tom Hanksson from his first marriage to late actress Samantha Lewes. “And Colin Hanks being a little too clueless to know like, ‘Oh, my God, this amazing girl is driving by on her bike, like, asking for me.'” Ha!

Even though Kate never got out of the friend-zone with Colin, 41, she has found love since her bike-riding days and even became a proud mom to sons Ryder Robinson, 15, and Bingham Hawn Bellamy, 7, during previous relationships with Chris Robinson and Matt Bellamy, respectively. Kate also recently welcomed her first daughter, Rani Rose, this past October with her current boyfriend, Danny Fujikawa. Despite never finding love with her son, Rita couldn’t be happier for her friend.

“Well frankly, if anybody’s going to trust that Kate Hudson is the biggest, amazing, most wonderful hearted beautiful person in the world, then I mean who doesn’t believe I’m Kate,” Rita gushed about the mom-of-three before adding in a funny snub. “Thankfully, I’ve never met such a misguided individual, except maybe my son Colin.”

The Almost Famous star isn’t the only one who’s found love in the tumultuous world of Hollywood. Rita has had her fair share of success considering the My Big Fat Greek Wedding actress has been married to Tom since 1988. Besides being proud parents to Tom’s son, Colin, the loving couple also shares daughter Elizabeth Hanks, 36, Chet Hanks, 28, and Truman Hanks, 23. Even though she has “no little Kate Hudson babies,” Rita and Tom were still blessed with two beautiful granddaughters thanks to Colin and his wife, Samantha Bryant.
