Though they’ve spent their entire lives in the public eye, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie admit facing online criticism is never easy. In a candid new interview with British Vogue, the sisters got real about everything from how they deal with haters, balancing their careers with royal life, and planning Eugenie’s upcoming wedding

“It’s hard to navigate situations like these because there is no precedent, there is no protocol. We are the first: we are young women trying to build careers and have personal lives, and we’re also princesses and doing all of this in the public eye,” Beatrice, 29, shared.

Over the years, the duo has often made headlines for their bold fashion choices at events, most notably their outfits and unique fascinators at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding back in April 2011.

“There was a horrible article that had been written about Beatrice and she got really upset,” Eugenie, 28, recalled. “We were just about to step out and she had a bit of a wobble and cried. I was looking after her. And then about an hour later, I had a wobble and started crying and Bea was there for me.”

Despite growing up with famous parents and one iconic grandmother (cough, cough Queen Elizabeth!), Beatrice and Eugenie are now trying to live more normal lives. The eldest York sister currently works as the VP of partnerships and strategy for a technology company and Eugenie is an associate director at art gallery Hauser & Wirth.

“We want to show people who we are as working, young, royal women, but also not to be afraid of putting ourselves out there,” Eugenie shared. “Nowadays it’s so easy to recoil when you see a perfect image on Instagram — but it’s important that it’s real. We’re real.”

So, what’s next for the royal siblings? This fall, Eugenie is set to tie the knot with her fiancé, Jack Brooksbank, in a lavish wedding — and Beatrice will be her maid-of-honor! As for how wedding planning is going so far, Eugenie quipped she’s “not stressed at all.”

“It’s nerve-racking because you want it to be perfect, but then you realize that you’re going to be with the person you love forever and nothing else really matters,” she shared before Beatrice gushed, “Euge is amazing. She’s a very modern bride.”
