Moulin Rouge star Nicole Kidman may be an award-winning actress and producer, but there is one thing that trumps both of those: her family. The mom-of-four and wife to country music star Keith Urban says her family is where she gets “so much of my comfort, nourishment, and energy.”

However, Nicole has to make sacrifices in order to get the time that she wants with her husband and kids, especially when she is across the county filming for new movies or shows. In fact, she recently wrapped filming for her role in her latest drama Boy Erased.

The Oscar-winning actress doesn’t just play a selfless mother in her new movie — she is one in real life. In the drama film, Nicole stars as the wife of a Baptist pastor in small-town Arkansas. And on a deeper level, she was able to identify with her character, who ultimately risks everything in her life to support her gay son.

“That’s our job as a parent, to always offer unconditional love,” she told ET on the 2018 Hollywood Film Awards red carpet on Nov. 4. “Everything is motivated by wanting to take care of your children and carve a path for them and leave them with a sense of morality, dignity, and accountability.”

By putting her children and Keith first, Nicole has to make some tough decisions. “I want to be a good wife and a good mother, so that requires giving up things I want sometimes,” she said. That includes a desire to move back to her homeland. “She has always wanted to be in Australia full-time, but because of Keith’s career, they mostly stay in Tennessee or LA,” an insider told Closer Weekly.

Nicole has also tempered her professional ambitions. “She’s putting her directorial aspirations on hold until her kids are older,” the insider says of the couple’s two daughters, Sunday, 10, and Faith, 7.

Nicole also has two adopted children — Isabella, 25, and Connor, 23 — from her marriage to Tom Cruise, and she practices the tolerance she preaches when it comes to their belief in Scientology. “They are able to make their own decisions. As a mother, it’s my job to love them,” Nicole told Who. It’s one she does well. “I’m deeply passionate about raising my children and being with my husband,” Nicole said of Keith to The Sun Herald.

The Big Little Lies star always proves that she is not only an amazing actress, but a devoted mama and wife — things of which she needs to give herself more credit for!
