Who says aging has to be bad? Nicole Kidman recently celebrated her 50th birthday and she wants the world to know that she’s feeling fierce and confident. The star opened up in the September issue of Vogue about how much better her life has become since marrying country singer Keith Urban in 2006 and choosing to have their daughters grow up in Nashville out of the Hollywood spotlight.

“Everything becomes more meaningful as you get older,” the star explained. “[My family] is the thing that gives me more joy and is the basis for everything.”

The Big Little Lies star has achieved a lot of success throughout her career including critical acclaim and fame. But, she still credits her family as her motivation to make the world a better place. She’s ready now more than ever to fight to make sure that her daughters have a wonderful future. She continued, “I am more fired up now because I don’t want things that were fought for in the ’50s and ’60s to be taken away from the young girls of the future.”

In this political climate, we can totally understand her fear about what kind of world her girls will grow up in. And we love that she has such a great foundation for them with Keith. It’s heartwarming to know that she’s getting her happily-ever-after following her very public split from her first husband, Tom Cruise. “We’re a very tight-knit family,” she added. “I love acting, but it’s much more fun taking the kids to the zoo.”

And Keith is just as smitten with Nicole as she is with him. “Keith and I always say that we are just so lucky to have each other. In this world, to be able to come back to that love and that strength is so nourishing and powerful,” she previously said. “And I am coming up on an 11-year wedding anniversary, 12 years together, and that’s a big thing. And that is through absolute commitment and kindness, the desire to protect and help each other, what our relationship is.”
