It seems entirely appropriate that a Brady wanted to take ownership of The Brady Bunch house, but, alas, that wasn’t to be. Still, it’s pretty cool that Maureen McCormick, 62 (how is that even possible?), was actually interested in purchasing the home that was used as the exterior for the 1969 to 1974 sitcom.

While speaking to People in a new interview, Maureen revealed that after she heard the house was going up for sale this past July, she expressed her interest in it — until a bidding war started between former N’SYNC band member Lance Bass and HGTV (the latter of which would ultimately prevail) broke out.

Said Maureen, “When the whole thing happened, I have to say that I really thought, ‘Gee, I would like to buy that house.’ I just kind of figured once I heard all the craziness, I thought, man, I can’t even compete with the onslaught of people that I thought would be coming for it.”

In the end, both Maureen and Lance expressed satisfaction that if they weren’t going to be able to get the house, they were glad it went to HGTV. As Lance tweeted, “HGTV??! Aw man. I’d be pretty upset if it were anyone else, but how can you be mad at HGTV?? My television is stuck on that channel. Kudos HGTV, I know you will do the right thing with the house. That was always my biggest worry. I can smile again.”

For her part, Maureen told the magazine, “If anyone’s gonna redo that house, who could be more perfect than HGTV? I’m a big fan of their network. I’m sure that they will do a great job.”

And we’ll get to see exactly what they’re doing thanks to word that HGTV is planning on a reality series covering the renovation of the iconic home. Wonder if they’ll restore it to its ’70s TV luster, astroturf and all.
