Did any of you get out of bed today and say, “Man, I sure hope Matt Lauer returns to TV soon. I miss the guy?” Anyone? Well, that doesn’t seem to be stopping Matt because he is reportedly getting close to making a return to television.

It has been a year since Matt was given the boot from his 20-year Today gig after a sexual misconduct scandal that rocked the show. But even after all that, a source tells In Touch that we may be seeing Matt’s face again on our televisions.

“He wants to host an investigative talk show, and he’s hoping HBO will give him a shot,” the source states, adding that Matt’s longtime friend Bryant Gumbel is reportedly trying his best to help him out. “But he’s the first to admit that his pal has an uphill battle ahead of him,” the source adds. “Matt also knows he has to pay his dues. He’s pretty much begging for a second chance.”

Another person who may reportedly be in need of a job soon? Megyn Kelly, who reports say is finalizing a $30 million exit deal from NBC. A couple of months ago, Megyn commented on Matt, saying, “I know too much that others don’t know,” adding, “All I’m going to say is that I feel very strongly about the #MeToo coverage, the importance of doing it without fear or favor. I didn’t let anyone stop me at Fox, and I’m not going to let anyone stop me at NBC.”

And as for Matt, it remains to be seen how he will be received if he ever does make his return to television. I also can’t even imagine how awkward it will be for the staff. But one thing is for sure: if you were expecting to see Matt hosting Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade tomorrow, well, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that probably won’t happen.
